Lessons with David Anavitarte

Personalized Music Lessons from a Seasoned Teacher and Performer

David Anavitarte has spent over 45 years helping students of all ages grow as musicians. Through patient instruction, a passion for music, and a wealth of experience, he offers lessons in both piano and voice that are tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.

Whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time or preparing for an audition, David provides expert guidance. He works with beginners, advanced musicians, and everyone in between. Lessons are offered in person and online, using a professional music teaching platform called Doozzoo. It is free for students and designed specifically to support high-quality online instruction.

Piano Lessons

Helping Students Build Skill, Confidence, and Expression

David’s piano instruction begins with a simple evaluation to understand the student’s current level and technique. From there, lessons are structured to focus on improving hand position, finger strength, rhythm, and musical interpretation.

Students will learn how to read music, understand phrasing, and develop the muscle memory needed for more advanced passages. More experienced students can dive deeper into specific styles or refine repertoire for performances or competitions. Whether your interest lies in classical works, jazz, or modern arrangements, David works with students to develop a well-rounded understanding of the piano.

Voice Lessons

Develop a Strong, Healthy, and Confident Voice

David’s voice students begin with a vocal assessment to help identify natural strengths and areas for improvement. From that starting point, David introduces what he calls the “air technique,” which focuses on breath control and healthy vocal production. The goal is to build confidence and clarity, whether the student is singing classical arias, musical theater, pop songs, or sacred music.

In addition to weekly voice lessons, David also offers vocal coaching for those preparing for auditions, university juries, UIL competitions,
church solos or worship leading,
recitals, and recordings/

David has been recognized as a voice technician and coach for over four decades. His teaching approach is informed by studies under the Joseph Klein method and advanced choral conducting work with Paul Salamunovich, the longtime assistant of Roger Wagner and director emeritus of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. These influences have shaped David’s approach to vocal health and expression.

Opportunities to Learn and Perform

Outside of private lessons, David offers several ways to engage in music education and performance through workshops, festivals, and choral events. He regularly leads:

  • Choral workshops for schools, churches, and community ensembles
  • Worship workshops that support vocal teams and directors
  • Music festivals featuring students and adult performers
  • Guest conducting and clinician appearances for concerts and regional events

David brings high energy and deep musical insight to each group he works with. He is currently the conductor of the Brazos Chamber Orchestra, Brazos Chorus, and the Bosque Chorale. Through these groups, he helps musicians explore new repertoire, collaborate with others, and grow as performers.
