Behind the Scenes • Music Director
MAESTRO DAVID R. ANAVITARTE dedicates his life to giving God all the glory through the art of music. His musical journey began at age seven, the piano was his first musical instrument. David spent many evenings in Philadelphia, watching the Philadelphia Orchestra rehearse as a child. He has a passion for music and musical excellence.
David and Kathy met in Takoma Park Maryland, at Columbia Union College, on the gymnastics team, and were married in 1983 in Warminster, Pennsylvania. They love spending time together with their children and their granddaughter Katelynne. They also enjoy country drives together and looking for unique antique shops and restaurants with ambiance. Spending time out in nature and traveling are just a few of their favorite activities. They have two adult children: Donielle, their daughter, is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in nursing and is married to William Halvorsen, a Fire Fighter/Paramedic. Devin, their son, is a Bible teacher, Chaplin, and a Christian playwright as well as a published author. Devin has a Master’s Degree in divinity.
When David is coaching students, conducting the Brazos Chamber Orchestra, Healing Heart, and Bosque Chorale as well as guest conducting or leading choral workshops and music festivals, you will experience an event full of energy, passion, and excellence! David offers online and in-person piano & voice lessons. David has over 45 years of professional experience teaching choral, vocal, and piano techniques.

David serves as Worship & Music Ministry Director at Granbury First United Methodist Church, Granbury Texas. He is the Music Director and Conductor of the Brazos Chamber Orchestra since its inception in 1998.
He is the Music Director and Conductor of the Brazos Chorus, a mixed auditioned ensemble that sings two major works a year as well as preparing and providing full concerts for a musical worship experience.
David is Music Director and Conductor of the Bosque Chorale. The Bosque Chorale is part of the Civic Music Association of the Bosque Arts Center in Clifton, TX.
David has studied conducting with American greats Paul Salamunovich, Ray Robinson, Jon Robertson, Daryl One, and Jim Dearing. He is in demand as a Conductor and Clinician as well as leading workshops in worship. He maintains an active voice and piano studio.
David attributes his understanding of the choral and orchestral sound to his mentor, teacher, and good friend, the late Maestro Paul Salamunovich, who died April 3, 2014.
